How often do you change Spark Plugs in your boat?

I have a 2003 Ebbtide Campoine 18.5' Mercruiser 4.3 V6 Alpha one. I just pulled it out of storage started doing the normal routine of cleaning and mechanical upkeep. Gear lube and Oil has been changed before storage (everything up to par) my question is regarding the spark plugs...

When should you change them? Is 3 years too soon? (I'll pull one out tonight and look for corrosion, etc).

Also any other spring time engine recommendations for a 4 year old boat? How often do you change Spark Plugs in your boat?
When is the last time you changed your water pump impeller . if you cant remember you maybe due. Real important they get weak with age and take a set when sittng to long and become weak.

If you pull your plugs and the white insulator around the center electrode is light brown they are good . A correct burning plug thats what color it should be Be sure to check all the bellows behind the drives bellhousing and look for drycracking between the webs. if you see any you need it changed. How often do you change Spark Plugs in your boat?
As you mentioned, just inspect them. If, the Anode/Electrode not look badly worn they probably OK for another season.

I not have a boat now and am looking, but, the last I had, I kept year round in a slip. Summer it was beached at the camp area and used most everyday. I usually changed plugs in it every summer. It probably got more use than a car.

I tried to find some pictures, many manuals show different plug wear. It a personal preference, but, I do use a little Anti-Seize on my Plugs.
You fire up on the old spark plugs from the season before, the motor should have been ';fogged'; before it was winterized, burn the old oil out of the motor at start up (IT SMOKES), THEN replace the spark plugs, why foul up ';NEW'; plugs ? they should be changed every spring, changing over to ';NEW'; spark plugs makes a world of difference on an outboard motor, don't forget, it burns ';MIX';, not straight gasoline like a car (if it's a 2 stroke outboard), so they get dirtier faster than a car's spark plugs.
I change them at least every 100 hours and clean them at least once a year.
Just do it every year when it comes out of storage, they are cheap.

How much would it cost to replace the rear coil springs on my 97 ES 300?

The car's not sagging, but it bottoms out when there are 3 adults in the rear - which is rare, but not rare enough that I shouldn't get the work done. How much should it cost to have the rear coil springs replaced? And, do I HAVE TO replace the struts at the same time, or can I get away with not changing that too?How much would it cost to replace the rear coil springs on my 97 ES 300?
I'm not too sure about the rest of the question, but if your doing the springs, you might as well do the struts. Generic ones, if they'll fit your lexus, are cheap, and changing them takes little extra time if the springs are already off.

How much work must you do to change its length from 9 cm to 12 cm?

A spring has a relaxed length of 7 cm and a stiffness of 50 N/m. How much work must you do to change its length from 9 cm to 12 cm?How much work must you do to change its length from 9 cm to 12 cm?
Force needed to reach 9 cm = k . x = 50 . 0.02 = 1 N

Force needed to reach 12 cm = 50 . 0.05 = 2.5 N

Average force needed = 1.75 N

Work done = Force . distance moved = 1.75 . 0.03 = 0.0525 JHow much work must you do to change its length from 9 cm to 12 cm?
Just be patient!
water it, it will grow

How much work must you do to change its length from 9 cm to 14 cm?

A spring has a relaxed length of 6 cm and a stiffness of 200 N/m. How much work must you do to change its length from 9 cm to 14 cm?How much work must you do to change its length from 9 cm to 14 cm?
Find the spring potential energy at both lengths.

SPE1 = 1/2*k*(L1-L0)^2

SPE2 = 1/2*k*(L2-L0)^2

W = SPE2 - SPE1

W = 1/2*k*(L2-L0)^2 - 1/2*k*(L1-L0)^2

Simplify:

W = 1/2*k*((L2 - L0)^2 - (L1-L0)^2)

Plug in data:

k:=200 N/m; L0 := 0.06 m; L1:=0.09 m; L2:=0.14m;

Result:

W = 0.55 JoulesHow much work must you do to change its length from 9 cm to 14 cm?
Solution

K = 200N/m

Change in length = 14 ?9 = 5cm = 0.05m

F = Kx

F = (200) (0.05)

F = 10N

Now using

W = F.X

W = (10) (0.05)

W = 0.5Joules

So you have to perform 0.5 Joules of work on the spring in order to change its length from 9 cm to 14 cm.

How do I replace spring seat (front of FWD car)?

what would a shop charge to fix this?

Thanks! How do I replace spring seat (front of FWD car)?
best and cheapest in the long run is to replace both complete strut assemblies as the springs are worn out too , plus the upper bearing plate is most likely shot .

then an alignment

  • Which strings to use for Drop C and how to change them?

Which gauge should i use for Drop C tuning on my guitar? and how do i change them on a flloyd rose. would i have to add an extra spring in the back??Which strings to use for Drop C and how to change them?
i prefer 12 gauge strings for drop c because in my opinion they got a good tension. or you could try light top heavy bottoms, there good for metal which your most likely playing if you wanna go to drop c. with those strings the bottom 3 (E,B,G) are pretty good to shred on but the top 3 (E,A,D) are still really good for heavy riffs. If you have active pickups (EMG's, Seymour Duncan Blackouts, or any others that you need to change the battery with) then i recommend Ernie ball strings (because they sound much better) but if you have passive pickups (the ones which usually have little like screw things on top) then use Ernie ball, D'Addario or elixir. i have been playing for 6 years and have tried 100's of different string gauges and brands. just try out a few until you find the one that you like

you don't need to add another spring..... because its the strings are lowered there looser even if there thicker you can just adjust the spirngs. i use 12's in drop c and i havnt added another spring. dont pay people to do it for you. just watch thease videos

If you're not familiar with how to change string gauge on a floyd rose, I would leave it alone. Have a professional do it for you for a small fee. Not only is it hard to do so, but it is very tedious and takes some experience to get it perfectly.

But just for your information, yes you would most likely have to add a spring to add tension, since lowering your tuning loosens the string, thus relieves tension. You could compensate for this loss of tension by getting thicker strings, probably 10 gauge. 10 gauge strings at Drop C will feel similar to 9 gauge on standard E. Or if you're used to 10 gauage at standard E, you may want to go for 11 gauge Drop C. However, you need to counter balance that tension with a spring or two. It also depends on the placement of the spring - a spring positioned diagonally has a bit more tension than one that is positioned straight. And to top it off, you may have to mess with each string's tuning (not just the fine tuners on the bridge, I'm talking the tuners that you need to adjust with the star-shaped screws) to ensure that all the strings can stabilize. This process involves measuring the distance from the fret to the string and making sure each string is adjusted correctly.

So the bottom line is you don't want to mess with your floyd rose unless you know what you're doing. People really mess up their tremolo bridge trying to handle it themselves without much experience, and end up having to take it to the guitar tech anyways for professional set up. So if you really want to retune your guitar, save yourself a headache and take it to a tech.

One last piece of advice - it is a real pain to change strings, and even more of a pain to change tuning on a floyd rose, meaning that you should probably choose one tuning and stick to it one a floyd rose guitar. If you feel like this whole Drop C thing is just a temporary phase for you, I'd say keep it to where it's at right now. You're going to have to go through this all over again if you decide later that you want to tune it back up...
yeah i agree with dark...i have a floating floyd rose with locking nut and the farthest i'll ever tune down is a half/step to work on solos a little easier...this is far too complicated for the novice to go dancing around in...but after a few tries with someone looking over your shoulder...you will be a wiz at your own guitar..if set up right..you could probably have any gauge you want from .09's to these monsters

    http://www.stringsandbeyond.com/erbabasl

although i wouldn't play em...you could set them on a floyd rose properly..that guitar becomes your drop-c guitar and nothing else without resetting..most floyd rose bridges have a hex key set screw that holds the string in place and you usually have to cut the ball or stop off the string to use them with a floyd rose..really I'm sorry to say but you really should take it to a guitar shop technician for the first few times and get to know him...it won't be long till you can flip the guitar to what ever tuning you want within an hour or so..i say an hour because i find things need time to settle when major changes have occured on the guitar

Changing the color of my car? How much does the DMV charge to change my registration?

    I am from Illinois.

Car is currently blue, but I will be repainting it Desert Sage Metallic in the spring, which is a greenish color.

I would be inclined, if only for your children's sake, to leave the life lessons up to life itself.

If you annoy these women, they have the potential to make things very uncomfortable for you and your children.

A possible solution here is that the pupils are given the chance to be taught about and celebrate the many different festivals of the major religions. That way they gain, rather than lose. This, however, is surely a matter for the school? Perhaps you could suggest it to the parents who are complaining as a solution and let them do the moving and shaking.Teach a Life Lesson - How would you do it?
Ive been a teacher to young kids as well...

and Im not jewish hon but I can relate to your experience.

why dont u prepare a short skit about the child that wanted to celebrate Hannukah for example...

repeat the same exact scene u came across with those women in your skit...as background voices ..with a child sitting lonely in the middle of a spotlight flood...and then the child makes a wish...and a miracle happens...his wish omes true and he celebrates his desired event.

    what do u think?
    Some wise person once said, ';If the mountain will not come to me, I will go to the mountain.';

I really don't have an answer for your situation but I do know this.

Life Lessons can never be taught harshly. They must always be taught with love an compassion. We really all are not that much different from one another once we learn to see past the end of our own noses.
    Here is the kicker

Jewish, German, English, Spanish Italian, French or whatever, when in America do as the Americans do!

There are far to many people here whom identify themselves with foreign lands, and that is all well and good for them, but hopefully first and foremost we are all Americans.

America in and of it's self has observed many traditions, and defended our rights liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, and it is only now that these traditions, and our happiness is trying to be stripped from us in the name of diversity to please everybody, only it cannot.

I suggest that we continue to observe those things which we as Americans wish to, and which makes our country stand apart from other country's, and those whom wish not to observe those things, or do not believe in them, can return to a land where their customs are practiced, and which they miss so much. as I also find it a pity that we as Americans have become the whipping boy whom is stripped and robbed of everything which we find important to us, including our God, and the love and honor of our Nation.

I wish to be a Free American.

Those whom do not are Free to leave, including the teachers whom wish to promote communistic Darwinian teachings, and remove God, The American Pledge of Allegiance, and Morality from the class room.
Every Holiday has a history and is steeped in years of tradition. Christmas dose not have to be they usual Christmas, but rather a Winter solstice, they still did many of the similar commercial traditions such as gift exchanges. Or you could do Christmas traditions from around the world. How did Halloween come to be.

The Japaneses people celebrate the cherry blossoms on the trees each spring. let the different cultures share how they celebrate each season and Holiday so that no one feels left out and no one can complain because in the end everyone gets a chance to share and learn about others

How to change the water in a tank for guppies?

I currently have 6 guppies(1 pregnant :)!) and i am scared to change the water becuase the last time i changed the water my last set of guppies died except for one. should i use spring water or what? How to change the water in a tank for guppies?
You want to change water with the least amount of stress possible for the fish. Netting them out of the tank is not the way to go about a water change without causing stress. I suggest you do a weekly 25% water change. Use a gravel siphon to clean the gravel as you go. Using tap water, adjust the temperature to be very, very close to the same as your tank. Test them both with the same thermometer and see that they are within about 5 degrees of each other. Treat the water with a chlorine and chloramine remover. Then carefully and slowly add the new water back to the tank. That is a totally safe and normal water change procedure that literally millions of people have used for decades, so it's well proven to work safely and with as low stress as possible.

MMHow to change the water in a tank for guppies?
And I change my fish's water with a cup, and I dont use a thermometer, I just let the water be lukewarm and my guppies are alive and kicking. Also what does it mean when a guppies eyes get really black and big? I also have colourful gravel and some fake reeds to protect fry

I am not an expert, but here is my advice. Take the fish out carefully with a net, the special fish ones. Place the Guppies in another tank or bowl, with clean water and replace the old water in the other tank. Use the net to place them back in the tank. I hope this helps!
I ususally only do partial water changes when it in necessary. When levels are not where they should be. I have quite a bit of water jugs with water storage. I use those to replace. The water is at room temp. and the chlorine is not an issue as it sits over time.
I guess the mistake you made before was taking them out of the tank and doing a complet waterchange

you don't have to do that

You should only do partial water changes of 25% with a gravelsiphon once a week

And don't forget to put waterconditioner in your new water before you add it

    Hope that helps

    Good luck

Going to Colorado. How can I prepare for the drastic change in altitude?

I'm going to Colorado Springs (6,000+ ft. above sea level) in 2 weeks for an intense 4 day camp at the Air Force Academy. I, however, live in the Bay Area, where the highest altitude is only 400 ft. I work out fairly frequently, but I'm wondering if there's anything else I can do to prepare physically, besides run my butt off.Going to Colorado. How can I prepare for the drastic change in altitude?
When I go out west to high altitude areas to hike (I live in Wisconsin), I increase my water consumption, don't drink any alcohol, and try to stay away from aspirin and ibuprofin to decrease the likelihood of nose bleeds. If you're able to, you might want to come out to C.S. a couple of days early to adjust to the altitude. I've included some websites that have some suggestions for things you can do to adjust.Going to Colorado. How can I prepare for the drastic change in altitude?
The only thing you can do is go there and adapt to it. Take care of yourself, get lots of sleep and water and eat balanced meals. That will help
Sleep with the windows and doors cloesd and put masking tape on the edges so no air can get it. This will help you get used to less oxygen.
it's really not THAT drastic, I go from that same 6,000ft to 13 or even 14,000ft all the time. You'll be out of breath and have a slight headache if you're doing something strenuous, but that's remedied by drinking a LOT of water and toughing it out.
I think Susan has the right idea, you should try to get here a week or so ahead of time and just get used to walking up and down stairs in town, then try some jogging. It seems that every time we have relatives come visit, someone ends up with altitude sickness. Running your butt off at home will help, if you add weight in a pack to really push it hard. I've lived in Colorado my whole life, 37 years now and I've learned to hyperventilate early in a hike (backwoods hunting) to prevent becoming winded to quickly when hitting the steep stuff. Breathing heavily, like you are getting winded, before you need to will get more oxygen in the blood and will help a bit.
came from Bay Area to Pueblo Colorado. I just moved slower and got winded when hiking.

It's really not that drastic ENJOY COLORADO
the altitude change realy dosn't affect you unless your realy out of shape or have bad lungs but you may be a lil more tired than normal.and good luck at the academy

How soon should I change the oil after being in storage for the winter?

I changed it in october, the guy I bought it off had been using automotive oil. I put it to storage in December and now I guess we have a nice early spring here. Can I get a few rides in before changing it, or should I do it ASAP?How soon should I change the oil after being in storage for the winter?
That depends, on the climate you store it in. If you live in a warm area. Change it, as you normally would Every 3 to 5 thousand miles or 3 months, depending on how you ride. Here in the cold winter areas. I change mine, in April. If you change your oil, before your first time out. You will still have some condensation, in the motor. Also a motor, does not get hardly any condensation in it, just sitting. It's the hot, cold, hot, cold, cycle. That causes, condensation. Go ahead and ride it. Start it up, after five or so minutes. Check your oil, if you see a creamy foam, on the dip stick. Shut the motor off and change the oil. Before you, start it again. How soon should I change the oil after being in storage for the winter?
Its supposed to be every 3 months or 3000 miles. But you should be ok for a little while just don't wait to long.
If it has auto oil in it change it before you ride.
If you have a street bike then there's no difference between 10w-30 automotive oil and 10w-30 motorcycle oil. Two-stroke oil and synthetic oils are the only ones you have to be specific about. Since it was changed in October I wouldn't be afraid to ride for a week or so before changing the oil. Just don't pull it out of storage and take off on a 100 mile bike ride.
    What does your manual advise?

Oil is changed according to mileage, @ 3K, for instance...and depending on riding conditions. If you're riding in hot or dusty conditions, change the oil sooner.

How many miles did you put on the engine before storage? Using the rule of thumb above, you can safely ride it until and even past the 3k miles...(It's not writ in stone!) Consider oil as cheap insurance for longer engine life.

Also, unless otherwise specified by the maker, motor oil is oil is oil. It's either a petroleum base, synthetic base, or a combination.

Older machines require a much higher lead content than today's modern oils can supply.
just change it before you ride cause it wont hurt anything
I tend to change oil in spring after winter storage here in Wisconsin- short ride to get the oil and warm engine, then drain warmed oil, change filter. Winter storage I probably should change oil then but usually don't- run until first snow then park it with some stabil in tank. oil gets change in summer by rough mileage.

I recently bought a american standard stratocaster and i know the factory specs are set up for .09 gauge strings. are there any adjustments i need to make to the springs and bridge and if so how do i do this.Do i have to make any adjustments if i change the strings on my american standard stratocaster to .10 gauge? ?
Hello! Anytime you change string gauges you need to check the intonation, floating bridge position, and truss rod adjustments. Your American Standard probably did come with 9檚, so going up to 10檚 will most likely require some tweaking. Check out http://www.fender.com/support/stratocast for details on making these tweaks. Also, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6GD7zXzkr has a decent visual on making truss rod adjustments on Stratocasters. None of this is rocket science, so don檛 be afraid! Best regards, DanaDo i have to make any adjustments if i change the strings on my american standard stratocaster to .10 gauge? ?
Sometimes you do. But you need to check either way just in case. The intonation and the truss rod. Heavier strings may cause more neck tension and may cause it to bow a bit.
You can go from .08s to .11s without changing any of that. Lighter gauge= more treble, more bend. Heavier gauge= stay in tune better, more warmth.
No but 9's are better by far
    you're gold.

Why do spring awakening have lyric changes?

i was watching a video of the song of purple summer and i listened to the actual track off the cd and its totally different lots of changed lines and i was wondering how come that is? is it because of the off broadway to broadway transition? Why do spring awakening have lyric changes?
    Yes.

When a show is first being made, they record the songs on a ';workshop'; or ';demo'; cd.

These are usually slightly different from the finalized broadway versions. They might have found a better way to make the show flow or they needed to change a bit for the sake of the plot.

If you listen to the NYTW version of RENT (1994 workshop) it is very different from the show you'd see today. Why do spring awakening have lyric changes?
Yeah, they made the CD and left it alone before the show aired on broadway and they are even still making changes to this day. The Song of Purple Summer and The Mirror Blue Night are the most different.

Physics question needs to be checked out?

I dont know how to get the answer to this.

Suppose it requires 100 dynes to change the length of a certain spring 5 cm. What force is required to change the length of the spring 20 cm?Physics question needs to be checked out?
i suppose you need to assume that the spring obeys Hooke's law: F=kx

where x is the length of the spring minus its unstretched length.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hooke's_law

there's a minus sign there, which simply means that if the displacement is positive (spring stretched) then the force is negative (pulling) and if the displacement is negative (spring compressed) then the force is positive (pushing).

this will be consistent with your everyday experience with springs....

you don't *need* to convert to dynes for this problem, but it is always good practice to rationalize all quantities to SI units first, so the equations work out nicely.

anyway, from F=k*x, the force is linear in the displacement. and you quadrupled the displacement. so the force quadrupled too.

    -%26gt; F = 400 dynes = 4x10^(-3) N

cheersPhysics question needs to be checked out?
You don't need to worry about whether you're dealing in dynes or Newtons beyond keeping track. Remember to use your units in your answer!

  • Can Antibiotics Cause A Loss of Appetite?

I have chronic sinusitis. It usually appears during major weather changes (winter to spring, fall to winter). I have to go on antibiotics every single time. However, I always have a loss of appetite when on the antibiotics. I always eat chicken noodle soup, applesauce, an apple, toast, crackers. I stay hydrated with water, tea, orange juice. I feel I should be eating more. But this time around, all I could eat were soup and crackers! How long after the course of antibiotics will an appetite return? It usually is no more than 1day for me. But this time it's been 3! What's going on?!Can Antibiotics Cause A Loss of Appetite?
well, it can upset your stomach and make you not want to eat very much. Can Antibiotics Cause A Loss of Appetite?
Antibiotics are hard on the stomach, so I'd suggest eating before taking them, and coating your stomach with a few ounces of milk.

How do you deal with not being with your spouse on the holidays?

I'm very family oriented, and it's very important to me that my fiance participate in family activities with me. My family has a huge celebration on Christmas Eve, and we have always gone to it together. He changed jobs last spring, and this year may not be able to attend. He has to work a half-day on Christmas Eve and may not make it there in time. I know that work is work, and sometimes there just isn't anything you can do about it. At the same time, though, I'm very disappointed. I don't want to be a ';party pooper'; with my family, but I know that I will miss having him there. Has anyone else dealt with this before? Is there anything we can do to make it easier? How do you deal with not being with your spouse on the holidays?
Bless your heart! This is SO hard...but I know you'll want to be as cheerful as possible so that your family isn't dragged down by your feelings! Focus on the time you WILL have together...and make sure it's the best that it can be. I know you'll have fun! Something else to consider is that you and your fiance will be a NEW family after you are married and you will be needing to begin traditions that are particular to you. Life is all about change. Good luck to you all and Merry Christmas! How do you deal with not being with your spouse on the holidays?
it don't sound like he is just making excuses .... sounds like there is really nothing he can do and it is out of his hands.

understanding in this situation may be needed.
Plan something special on his day off.
The job keeps a roof over your head and is keeping food on the table. It's nice that you feel so close to your husband but he'll be home after work, don't make him feel guilty as I'm sure he would rather be with you to.
You are a stick in the mud - the world is a constantly changing place and you want everything to stay the same? You are going to be disappointed a lot in your life, I predict.
I deal with this same situation every year. At first it was a little hard, but then I just started coping. This will not be the last time he can't make it and that's okay. Let him know he has to make it up to you. Go to the celebration, be with family, without him there, it will be nice to have the company. Being alone is only gonna make it worse.
being away from your spouse on the holidays is the most empty feeling you'll ever have. try to surround your self with family and Friends and remember, he's just as lonely as you are!

How high can i lift my '92 Jeep Cherokee XJ without having to change out other parts?

Planning on lifting it 4.5 inches w/RoughCountry w/ Leaf springs. Also how big of tires can i put on it with 4.5in lift? How high can i lift my '92 Jeep Cherokee XJ without having to change out other parts?
Can't do a body lift on the uni-body XJ. You can go 4.5 without replacing anything but springs, although the articulation of the suspension is not going to be all that great. Try 32x11.5 r15 tires with a slight spacer. At that height spacing between the body and the tire isn't much of an issue, with that tire size, but spacing between the tire and the suspension could be.How high can i lift my '92 Jeep Cherokee XJ without having to change out other parts?
It depends on what you want to do with it after you lift it. I think that you probably could do 33's with a 4.5 lift, but you are not going to have as much articulation as you would have with the 32's with the fender rub. However, if clearance is what you are in business for, it may be the way to go. I put a RE 4.5'; on my friend's XJ about three months ago and stuck 33's on it, and they are rolling just fine on the ORV trails. I don't think I'd get much larger than that though.

I'd also check out whats worn out under there before you put it on; I'd definitely look into an adjustable track bar and a new steering stabilizer if it doesn't come in the kit. Might as well spend a couple extra bucks and do it right while you're down there.
Add a 4'; body lift and a 4.5'; spring lift with 32'; Micky Thompson Mudders on it.

How long does synthetic oil last (time wise)?

There are lots of answers on here as far as mileage goes. I'm looking for a time frame though. I only put like 2,000 miles a year on one of my cars. Last year I changed it in the fall before putting the car into storage only to change it again in the spring. I started the car a few times, but never even drove it while it was stored for winter. Is this the way to go or would it be ok just to change it once a year? How long does synthetic oil last (time wise)?
Once a year is more than enough. Oil will last for many years if it sits. If you drive, it puts contaminates into it which can break it down. The whole thing about changing oil is overblown.

If you buy a new BMW, they warranty the car for 100,000mi and they only want to change the oil every 13,000mi.How long does synthetic oil last (time wise)?
Only in the fall and even then a full synthetic may not need changing annually unless most driving trips are less than 20 miles.

It helps to run the vehicle once a month in winter but, must be brought to operating temperature and allow to run for 10/15 min after.

Ideally - a garage kept above freezing is best. If the vehicle must be kept in an unheated detached garage it will be more prone to condensation buildup when warmed up at intervals.

Added benefit is to block the vehicle at each wheel. This would allow the engine, transmission,(seals), rack and pinion, CV joints, (if so equipped), differential and wheel bearing seals to be exercised to extend their life.
Change it every year like you're doing. Preferably before storage. Miles depends on which synthetic your referring to, for instance Mobile one has 5,000, 7500 mile blends, and a 10,000. mile pure synthetic. There are many others that claim 10,000. I would still change it a least once a year to protect you're investment.
This oil lasts 2-3x longer than regular. Mainly use a really good filter. 2k is very little wear in the oil boosters . In a warm climate there wont be moisture build up in the oil so you can use for maybe 3 years.

I have horrible city water-how can I keep fish?

The water here used to be okay-up until a few yrs ago. After 15 yrs of being a fish hobbyist, I took a break for a few years and just recently decided to start back up. Since then, it has been a disaster. The first tank I bought, literally fell apart on me, forcing me to immediately move my fish to a new tank without cycling it first. Since then, I cannot get it to cycle properly( going on 6 weeks). My NO2 and NO3 levels consistently test at 0 (my nitrites should have spiked by now). I have tried everything. And I am not joking. My ammonia levels are at 5; also, my ph is too high, while the total alkalinity is too low (how the heck can this be?). My water is very hard and the chlorine levels are somewhat high. I have since done several water changes, tried using spring water (not as hard as tap, also more acidic), filtered water, half tap, half spring, half tap, half filtered, using a different test kit, waiting, etc. I have used Stress Coat, Stress Zyme, ammo lock...different filters, you name it. Never, had I had this kind of trouble. I cannot believe my fish are still hanging on (just barely). One has died and the others are showing moderate to severe signs of ammonia poisoning. I cannot (for some reason) get a handle on this. I have 15 yrs experience! I've also been through this before and everything was ok. Why not this time? I have some expensive fish!I have horrible city water-how can I keep fish?
Interesting problem. No nitrites after 6 weeks.. that's crazy. What size tank are we talking about and what's it stocked with?

What exactly are your pH, KH, GH, and Alkalinity levels at? If you can get a calcium test too that would be helpful.

I assume you're using water conditioner every water change right? Just making sure... Some people don't.

One problem I see off the bat is an ammonia level above 5 tend to slow or stop the cycling process. Too much ammonia is toxic to the bacteria that break it down. Learned that with fishless cycling.

The problem with using RO water for a fish tank is it contains no trace elements and no salts that fish need. It's also highly unstable and will likely have a pH crash. You'd have to find freshwater trace minerals in an additive, as well as a buffer suitable to your stock of fish. It means a lot of work balancing everything out. One thing I've done is a mix of RO plus tap water to get a more desirable environment. I don't know if that's a good idea though until I know more about your water chemistry.

If you want to send me a message with more details, I'd be happy to try to solve the problem with you.I have horrible city water-how can I keep fish?
    go get country water
If you just cannot solve this problem, go to the store and buy jugs of water. I think that would really be your only option if it's that terrible. If you're still intent on figuring out how to solve the water issue, at least buy the water for the fish.
What are your alkalinity levels? If they are high i sure wouldnt be drinking that water!

Personally i would go to home depot and get a whole house water softner, you can have one put in for $300. If will pay for itself in 5 years with the amount of money it saves you on wear and tear to your plumbing. I would also get an under the sink ro because reverse osmosis is the only way you can clear such a horrible problem.

I know your pain i lived in the high plains of Texas right on the New Mexico line where the water was awful. • Why doesn't our view of the stars change?

It seems that if you look at a model of the solar system, wouldn't it only make sense that we should have a slightly different view of the stars every night if the earth's position is changing? And the view would change entirely between fall to spring, or summer to winter. How is it that we always see the big dipper, and the north star, etc?Why doesn't our view of the stars change?
    It does, it's called parallax.

It's one way in which we can measure the distances to some of the closer stars.

The apparent distance they ';move'; though is very small, since they are exceedingly far away and the diameter of our orbit around the sun is comparatively tiny.

To put it in perspective, for light to travel the diameter of our orbit it takes about 17 minutes. The closest star is over 4 light years away. If our orbit was 1 inch in diameter, Alpha Centauri would be 2.2 miles away.

http://sci2.esa.int/interactive/media/flWhy doesn't our view of the stars change?
Our view of the stars *does* change throughout the year. The following link will show you the seasonal constellations, and the ones you see all year round, in the northern hemisphere.

    http://www.windows.ucar.edu/tour/link=/t

    .
You REALLY need to go outside and do some REAL observing through an entire year. The positions of all the constellations, including the circumpolar constellations and aster isms like the Big and Little Dippers change constantly at the same time of day throughout the year. The bowl of the big dipper that was 9 o'clock at around 10 pm CDT in mid August is at 8 o'clock right NOW (and the sun hasn't set yet and the skies are overcast in Norman, OK) and the star at the bottom left corner of the bowl will be below my northern horizon at latitude 35.2 degrees N at 11:36 pm CDT, according to Stellarium 0.10.2. because of the apparent motion of the sun through sky. Ursa Major, Ursa Minor Draco, Cassiopeia, and Cepheus are all circumpolar constellations, Which is why we can see them all of the year, but the coordinates of the stars of circumpolar constellations change through one day because of Earth's rotation, and change position at a particular time of day and month because of Earth's rotation around the sun, That's why you see Scorpio above your southern horizon in mid August and Taurus and Orion above your southern horizon after sunset 6 months before and after mid February.

    Why is he like this?

My boyfriend %26amp; I have been together for 11 months, %26amp; we were best friends for 5 years before that. Well, all he does is complain about everything I do, %26amp; it doesn't even make sense. He gets mad if I don't go on webcam while talking to a friend on the phone, he won't do stuff with me unless I'm on webcam with my shirt off. And once he wants to do something %26amp; I won't go on cam, he tells me forget it %26amp; he gets mad that I get mad at him. He tells me that I've changed since the spring, %26amp; his ideas are not clear at all, he just types words that make no sense. We have been over this atleast 8 times, %26amp; he still won't tell me. I tell him to make bullets and tell me what's wrong, %26amp; he types paragraphs! When I tell him to answer just yes or no, he puts the answer %26amp; goes on typing another page. Then he makes up ideas %26amp; tells me how I'm feeling when I'm not, I would know. When we fight, he tells me that I knew how he was when we started dating. Why is he acting like this? I can't stand it.Why is he like this?
sounds like u guys r dating online over the internet...honestly dont take it seriously. ive done it plenty of times and if u cant find a boy near u online so that u can actually see him and do stuff with him then just drop him. my boyfriend i have now i met online and we're perfect, but that's only bc we hang out everyday and are about to talk face to face andnot on some webcam. b4 this relationship i had ';relationships'; online which is what urs sounds like. he's acting like that bc he's not ';with u'; to say bc we're not together in the same area. he's trying to control u and make u feel like he's the only one that can do **** with u but it has to be done his way. first off if any man told me that i had to be on webcam while on the phone with a friend i'd tell him to **** off, second no way in hell would take any of my clothes off for a man online on a webcam. does he have one? actually it doesnt even matter drop him. leave his dumb ***.Why is he like this?
Sounds like he is well on the way to becoming a dope addict. Get rid of him and check out a new model with higher standards than the gutter.
tell he to get a life now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
he sounds like a jack ***!!
You sound like someone who buys shoes that are three sizes too small, and you sit there and hope really hard that they will someday fit you. Guess what, your method is flawed.

This guy is not a god fit for you, and it woluld be self-defeating for you to continue to waste your time on him. He is how he is, and he will not change. No matter how many excuses you make for him, he will continue to suck the life out of you.

Why don't you find a guy who is a good fit, and a guy who is so good to you that you want to call all your friends and brag about him to them? Wouldn't that make more sense, and wouldn't that feel really good?

As the old agade rings true ';When you find yourself discussing your relationship problems, than you should know the relatioship is over';.
Sounds like you are both immature and need to find a real relationship. Sounds like all he wants is a sexual relationship with you. If you are not into that then you need to get away from him. Why can't you find a guy that you can see and talk to in person. You are fighting about they way each other types, that is not a relationship, it is an English class.
Tell him to put his butt in front of the web cam and when he says no, then do the same thing he does when he gets mad at you for not taking your shirt off. Then tell him to grow up and until he does then you will not be dating him! A relationship based on that is not healthy! Let him get a taste of his own medicine.
many times when guys want to break up and don't know how to do it, they try to pick fights and start issues so that it's easier to get out of the relationship. If you think that might be the case, then just ask him. It's a lot easier to get seperated that way, if you know the girl knows your intentions.

Just make it easy on him (and consequently yourself) and just tell him that you aren't happy in the relationship and want to go back to being friends. If he doesn't immeadiately object, in a serious way, then you know the objective may have been that the whole time.

Life is too short to be in relationships that don't make you happy. If this guy was a best friend of yours, then go back to that, because 5 years is a lot to waste. But I think that this guy isn't the right boyfriend fit for you, and it's ok to realize that and move on.

    Good luck.....

    I'm having more boy trouble...?

Okay, so basically... there's this guy named Chris. I've known him for a while now, but I recently switched to the high school he goes to, and since then we've been talking more and more. I felt I could trust him with a lot of things, so I told him about my ex boyfriend, and other personal things. One day, over aim, he told me he liked me. It was over Spring Break. I didn't know what to do, because even though I was attracted to him, he had always been just a friend. I had never tried to look for the boyfriend part in him, so I didn't really tell him anything except ';I'm not sure if I like you back.'; He also said that he didn't like to talk about his feelings with girls, in case they didn't like him back. He said he was afraid that they would control him, and use the fact that he likes them to their advantage. I kept trying to talk about it with him, and ask him why he liked me, but he didn't want to talk about it. Then all of a sudden he was like ';haha, just kidding, this is Chris's friend'; and I knew it was Chris, because only Chris knew some of the things we were talking about, so I told him that I was pretty sure it was him. Long story short, he finally admitted to it being him, and we changed the subject.

Spring Break was ending, and I was still deciding wether or not I liked him ';like that.'; I finally decided I did, and I IMed him trying to talk about it, but he kept changing the subject. Eventually he was like ';look, that wasn't me that said I liked you over AIM. It was my friend,'; and I am still sure it was him.

Anyways, so up until Friday, I was thinking that I really liked him, and that he probably liked me. I was sort of waiting for him to ask me to be his girlfriend. Friday afterschool I walked him to the corner, and my friend who was walking behind us told me that when he talks to me, he doesn't look at any other girls, and that he smiles like he likes me. Then he invited me to his party which was on Saturday night.

When I got there, he was sitting really close to this one girl, but the music was loud, so I could be exaggerating. It was an outside party, but all of a sudden he went inside to get something, and the girl knocked on the door, and he opened it. And I swear, out of the corner of my eye, he was closing the door and I think I saw her arms go around him and him kiss her, but I can't be sure. Anyways, so she came out, and then went back in again, and then me and my friend decided we were going to go to Starbucks. My friend knocked, and then opened the door to tell Chris we were going to leave for a little, but she didn't see Chris near the girl. The girl apparently went in there to use her phone, and he was trying to hurry her up because he didn't want anyone in the house. But still, I don't know if I was just seeing things, or if he kissed her.

Anyways, so today (to try and get it out of him), I was like ';you hooked up with that girl last night, right?'; and then we talked a little about ';which girl';, and then he was like ';wait so you think I hooked up with somebody, right?'; and I was like ';er... yes?'; and he's like ';hahaha okay.'; But I don't know what that means. I don't know if he's being sarcastic, or what.

I'm soooo confused. Blehhhhh, can someone give me their advice?

Oh, and also, he always tells me how beautiful I am, and that he wants to hookup with me, etc etc. Please help!I'm having more boy trouble...?

10 being hard that most car shops have to do it cuz they have the right tools.

I want to go buy either some new springs or the full suspension kit what kind are best ?

    how long will it take?

is it easy? How easy is it to change out the suspension on a 95 civic?
why not sell this car and get the one you want you re talking 50,000 to 75,000 for the part s to repair or replace all the parts take it to a spring shop which will put on what you want are you getting into racing, road or track you need a whole bunch of parts shocks steering linkage upper and lower part for the suspension and all related parts goooooood luckHow easy is it to change out the suspension on a 95 civic?
Without going into detail with required tools, hydraulic presses, spring compressors, and lifts....

You may be beter off paying someone to do it.

Or spend $60,000 for the tools.
Lowering spring kits have higher spring rates per inch of travel. You'll hate the ride and you'll need matched struts to control the stiffer bouncy springs. Your car will need aftermarket camber plates on top of the strut towers to hopefully alligning the mess once it's done. You'll need a strut tower brace to keep the flimsy body from flexing because of the higher spring rates. I'll guaranty you'll never do this again as you're opening a big can of worms.

If you want to upgrade your suspension you alone can toss on a set of heavier anti-roll bars that will keep the car flatter in corners without sacrificing ride quality.

A spring (k=200N/m) lies on a frictionless table, one end connected to a wall, the other to a 4kg block. a) How much work is required to pull the block to stretch the spring .06 m? b) if block is released, find its acceleration when it has moved .02 m back toward unstretched spring position. c)Find block's velocity .02 m back toward the unstretched position. d) Find total energy in the system. e) how much time does it take the block to get to its max velocity from when it was released. f) How much would that time be changed if the spring had been stretched 2x the original stretch?

THANK SOOOO MUCH IN ADVANCE :)Please help me with this physics 2 problem?
    Hello,

    a). w=1/2kx2 = 1/2*(100N/m)*(0.06m)2 = 0.36j

    ω = sqrt(k/m) = sqrt(200/4) = √50s^-1

    A = 0.06m

in simple harmonic motion if at (t=0s) the displacement is A or -A, we use the cosine function to express the displacement (x) as a function of (t) .

    X(t) = - Acos(ωt) = - 0.06cos(√50*t) , (at t=0 ,x=-A) .

    V(t) = X'(t) = ωAsin(ωt) = 0.42426sin(√50*t) = ω*sqrt(A2-x2)

    a(t) = V'(t) = ω2Acos(ωt) = ω2*X(t) = 50*X(t) .

    b). a = 50*(0.2) = 10m/s2

    c). V(t) = ω*sqrt(A2-x2) = √50*sqrt(0.062 - 0.022) = 0.4m/s

    d). E = 1/2kA2 = 1/2*200*(0.06)2 = 0.36J

    e). T = 2πsqrt(m/k) = 2πsqrt(4/200) = 0.88857s

the block gets to its max velocity from when it was released after T/4 seconds = 0.222s

    f). it will not change. because T=2πsqrt(m/k) doesn't depend on x .

I hope they bring water with them
that actually did happen in the goldrush (well not the entire population on China, but a hell of a lot of Chinese men) came to Victoria and NSW.

they were discriminated against very harshly by the Australians because of their hard word ethic and because they sent their gold back to their families in China.

If that were to happen these days i think their would be major food and water shortages throughout Australia, our economy just wouldn't cope.
well, id probably move to China seeing as there would be no room left for anyone else here in Australia.

I do not want to change all of the coil springs and crap to put in a v-8. (this would have to be done. Right?) This is going to be my week end, play car. I also dont care what i have to do to get it..(get the hp) bore, stroke, cam, fuel injection.. What ever. Any ideas...? Thanks Daniel

Ps. Any sugestions on where to start, maybe you build engines.. Know some where I can go for help? mail me please. from my web site. http://www.AmsoilMotorOil.com select the contact me page or e-mail me at dduke@biminitops.bizHow much HP can I get out of a 290 in-line 6?
whew! that is a tall order! but i like it. talk about dare to be diffrent. can it be done? you betcha! you will more and likely have to run a turbo.

Well if your trying to get that much H.P. from a 6 then be prepaired for inovation. I am working on a ford 6 that I am going to turbo charge. I have a 67 Mustang with a 6 and I am going to dare to be different. But I am using a newer model 6 because the block is a lot stronger and I am going from a 200 cid to a 250 cid........Trust me I am going to do some serious fabrication
    Also try http://cliffordperformance.net
yes- supercharged or turbocharged. and lots of money.

it would prolly be cheaper to v-8 swap it.

cam, head, intake, etc will have to be custom done because it's an out of the norm motor to hop up.
not as much as you can get out of a 4-cylinder engine. I have read the ecotech engine 2.0L got over 700+ hp on the dyno with no load.

How can you tell if your rear real coil springs are bad on a 1996 Mercury Sable?

I took my car in for an oil change and came out with an estimate for over $400 to fix the right rear coil spring on my 95 Mercury Sable. I have been told by others that usually both need to be replaced and others have told me that if I push down really hard on the trunk and let go that if it bounces more than once that I need it replaced. Any way to really tell if you need that stuff replaced? I have heard of mechanics trying to cheat people and I don't know anything about cars. How can you tell if your rear real coil springs are bad on a 1996 Mercury Sable?
Wow. Some shockingly bad answers above mine. Not a one of them got it right. But I know exactly what your mechanic is talking about.

Coil springs on mid-90's Merc Sables and Ford Taurus are notoriously failure prone. They break and yours I am sure are broken. That is why they recommended replacement. I can't count the number of broken springs I have seen on these cars it has been so many. In at least a dozen cases I have personally witnessed where the broken spring has collapsed below the lower spring seat and punctured the tire, causing an instand blowout.

    Yes it is that serious.

The bounce test is BS. That was proven and invalid method to test anything 30 years ago. It wouldn't tell you if you had a broken spring though even if it was valid. All you have to do is have a peak at the spring and you can see where it is broken. It will be the bottom coil. If you can't see it just run your finger around the spring towards the bottom until you find the break. It will be there.

Springs should always be replaced as pairs, that is why they are always sold as pairs. Old springs sag so you won't be able to get a decent alignment spec with mismatched combinations of new and worn parts. Also, the other one on that axle is just as likely to break. Also, since you have to take them out and at 11 years old they will be badly worn anyway I would replace the struts at the same time.

Ideally you should replace all four coil springs because these cars are just as likely to have broken front springs as rear and if they are not broken yet, the will, and replace the struts at the same time. You'll be amazed how much better it drives and more importantly, handles and stops. New struts and springs on 1 axle and old worn ones on the other can lead to goofy ride and handling characteristics. With suspensions, everything should match. These are safety components.

Several other cars from the 90's had similar issues too - early 90's Honda's and Acura's, Ford Escorts and Nissan Altima's (front springs only) are also notorious for broken springs.

I'm worried since I have to drive over 100 miles tonight and last thing I need is to go off the road. I would wait but I don't have a choice.

If the back end is sagging,, replace them. If one spring is bad, you should replace them both.
GOD, PEOPLE !!!know what you are talking about before you answer!!!

The Sable and Taurus` have front AND rear struts. so spring and shock are all in one unit, Kind of...

the spring holds up the car and the Shock part prevents excessive movement.

    SO,

Get a different estimate, it may be fixable by itself as it`s just the spring and they dont go bad by themselves!

See a FORD dealer! it may be a recalled Item!
Actually it is the coil springs that are making your car bounce when you push down on the trunk and let go. If your car bounces, then the springs are OK. Now the shocks may be bad though. They are what prevents your car from bouncing up and down.

If you car bounces when you push on it, the shocks prolly need replaced, but not the springs. If you push down, and your car slams down on the axle/frame, then you need the coil springs replaced.

Keep in mind that a oil change place doesn't stay in business by doing $20 oil changes. They always try to ';upsell'; you. Either way, you car will be drivable, just maybe a little rough ride.

If you are concerned, I would take it to get a free estimate somewhere else, otherwise, I think you will be ok unless you feel your car ';bottom out'; on the frame.
The bounce test you described is for testing shock absorbers, not coil springs, if the problem you are having is to much bounce in the rear, or too rough of a ride in the rear, then what you need is new shocks, in 40 years as a mechanic, I've never heard of springs needing to be changed on any car under 20 yrs old unless someone has damaged a spring by heating it up with a torch in an attempt to lower the vehicle, hope this helps.

    George
The springs on your car seldom if ever will need to be replaced. The only reason to replace them is if they are broken (not worn but actually broken in more than one part) or if you want to change the ride height. Other wise you probably just need new shocks not springs. Get a friend or family member who has a mechanic you can really trust and get him to give you an estimate on the repair. New shocks should cost about $35 each and the installation should be less than $100. Good luck - Gary

When can i change a navel piercing?

I got mine done this weekend, but they did it with a basic ring, made of stergical steel. I hate the look of it, and want to change it NOW. I was planning on doing so for spring break, which is about 5 weeks from now. How early is too early to change it? If I make sure to sterilize the new jewelry, and buy one made of a good material, and continue to clean it, should there be a problem? When can i change a navel piercing?
If you REALLY want to change it then, I suggest that you change it exactly 5 weeks from down. Until then, don't take your ring out and what not. From that point on, after you put in your new jewelry, don't change it for at least 3-4 months. That is because it is not fully healed yet. You should buy a navel ring made out of surgical steel just like the one you have right nowWhen can i change a navel piercing?
It will most likely take at least three months to heal. It could take up to a hear to heal though. Don't take it out, you could cause an infection or cause trauma to the piercing. If you cause trauma your body may reject the piercing. It can't look that bad, lots of people have the ring. If I were you I'd keep it in for at least 3 months. You can tell when it has healed when it looks normal and is not red. Be very careful or you might regret it.
5 weeks is way way too soon, the absolute minimum healing time for a navel piercing is 6 months, it can take anywhere up to a year to fully heal

    Irish spring. soap eating. poisonous?

OK i have a story to tell.. my friend Kenny has been eating soap since like the 3rd grade... and hes in like high school now... hes been eating Irish spring original soap. and when he told me i was shocked :o

so then he changed to Irish spring- moisture blast- with hydro beads.. so what i wanted to know was is any of them poisonous.. like he doesn't eat the whole bar at once... but he takes little niblets in the shower.. so i want to get him to stop eating it.. so how do i? and is it like poisonous..? hes been eating it for a long time and im worried.. so is there health affects or anything?Irish spring. soap eating. poisonous?
    Jaysus

what country do yous have 'irish spring' soap :sIrish spring. soap eating. poisonous?
    He's as good as dead.
first of all it is just gross to be eating what you bathe yourself with. what if somebody took a shower at his house and stuck that bar of soap up their butthole for the heck of it? and secondly i don't think he should be eating irish spring soap.... if it was made for ingestion it would say ';irish spring snacks'; on the box. but it shouldn't kill him.. but thats just weird
suggest that he see a doctor. he may have a nutritional deficiency. And yes, soap is bad for your health. Some even contain carcinogenic substances.

Although soap is not nutritious, it is also not dangerous unless consumed in large amounts over a long period of time. However, it could lead to diarrhea, vomiting or skin irritation.

In most cases I've heard of people eating soap either after a pregnancy or in children who are autistic. It's possible that he might not be getting all the iron that he needs, or he's really stressed.

These are the ingrediants in the hydro blast irish spring soap:

Soap (Sodium Tallowate, Sodium Cocoate, Palm Kernelate Types), Water, Hydrogenated Tallow Acid (Skin Conditioner), Coconut Acid, Glycerin (Skin Conditioner), Petrolatum, Fragrance, Sodium Chloride, Titanium Dioxide, Polyquaternium 6, Hydroxypropyl Methylcellulose, Pentasodium Pentetate, Tetradibutyl Pentaerithrityl Hydroxyhydrocinnamate, Hydroxyhydrocinnamate, Iron Oxides, Ultramarines.....now does that sounds healthy to you?
shouldn't be a problem in small doses. I am sure he is quite regular as in going poop daily

How much time is appropriate with my girlfriend?

I'm 15 years old and so is my girlfriend. We've been really close friends for about 4 months and we decided what better match than really good friends? There is no problem between her and myself, no we are perfectly fine and very compatible. The issue I am having is there is a disagreement with how much time is appropriate that I spend alone with her (at either one of our houses with parents always home). Her parents do not really have a problem with her and I at either one's house, but my parents believe that it is necessary to limit ';alone time'; we have together to once per weekend and no times after school. This equates to once between Friday after school and Sunday night. That is an honestly agreeable idea however it doesn't change with time off like spring break. I wanted some feedback from other kids and parents alike. I like to spend time with my best friend...is that a problem? How much time is appropriate with my girlfriend?
Well young man, being a parent who has raised a son, and now a daughter, Here is what I would do should later my daughter start dating a boy I would allow them alone time anywhere public around my home, however behind no closed doors and I would not allow to be alone in any bedroom or such. I commend you from having enough sense to know sex in high school is poor judgment. That being one thing you said that let's me know you have good mental character. Alone time in my home would be anywhere where I can hear you or come in close contact with any time I chose but give you enough space to talk and do homework but to ensure you resisted any sexual urges as in heavy petting and such. How much time is appropriate with my girlfriend?
Well young man thanks for chosing me, just be careful so that you don't become a teenage father and ruin your education. God Bless.

    Yes.
personally, i fell that's way to controlling. however, keep in mind that i had an abusive older sibling and going to a friend's house (regardless of if they were male or female) was my only escape.
no offnese butt ur parents are being gay, an unreasonable, you need as much time as you want, if shes the right gurl you will want to spend every minute u breath with her trust me, i am 15 an getting engagded, i have matured very fast people think im crazy but i kno shes the one and im doing evryhting to make her happy, so hope i helped man, lata
Translation: parent says ';limit alone time'; Meaning: DON'T HAVE SEX TILL YOU ARE PROTECTED PHYSICALLY AND EMOTIONALLY READY.
She's not your best friend...she's your girlfriend. Your parents want to make sure you don't end up parents yourself.
I guess the question I have, is, did the amount of time you are allowed to spend together change after you became a couple? I think that you are being quite restricted by your parents. Maybe they will chill out a bit as your relationship progresses. Sounds to me that they are concerned that you two are going to have sex.
I don't think any 15 year olds need ';alone time';. You can spend time at each of your houses with family there, but alone time for teens means trouble@!@

I would say several times over the weekend and possibly one nite per week on school nites, depending on whether your grades are good. If your grades are not good, then school precedes girlfriends %26amp; other activities. That is why schools require you to have passing grades to participate in sports etc. same should hold true for out of school activities! I'm not a prude parent either, but have years of experience and just trying to tell it like it is!
I personally think it's kinda messed up to limit your ';alone time';. What they're probably trying to do is avoid you guys having sex, probably thinking you're too young and by putting limits on how much time you two can spend alone together will avoid that. But they also need to realise, that it doesn't matter how much they keep you two apart if you're wanting to fool around you will find ways. I see no problem with you wanting to spend time with your bestfriend who happens to be your girlfriend. Infact, it's extremely healthy to want to spend time together. I would be worried if you were wanting to avoid her all the time. I think what you need to do is explain to your parents that it's not fair to limit how much time you two get to spend together, ask them if they would have done the same thing before you two started dating? Nothing has really changed since then except that you're probably a little closer now, holding hands, kissing and such, which wouldn't have taken place before. Ask them how they would have felt if someone would have done that to them when they were dating...regardless of their age at the time.
    Listen to your parents.

You need to grow up and get educated and mature first.

You don't need heartaches at a young age.

Sex is a very .strong impulse and can overpower everything in your life

Don't get into temptation which could ruin your life.

You have to spend time studying and learning about life and with a girlfriend on your mind, you will have a hard time concentrating on anything but her. When the time comes and things don't work out anymore, you will be devastated. It will hurt you emotionally. Your parents are wise, they have more experience about life.
You know, my parents did that with me until I was 18. I still lived at home at 18, but they allowed me to make those grown up decisions when I was of legal age to do so. This may seem like they are over protective, but they probably just do not want to see you make this girl all you are concerned with in life. You know what I mean. You see some very young couples that are so wrapped up in a relationship that they don't have time for homework, sports, jobs, or anything else. Then if they happen to break up their hold world seems crushed. By limiting how serious this gets, they ensure that you don't ';lose'; yourself in the process of exploring a new relationship.
First of all, a 15-year-old doesn't talk like that, so I don't believe that part.

You all don't have to be in each others faces all the time. I think once a weekend is fine.
Oh, you don't need alone time! You shouldn't have sex when your only 15, because later you will regret it, and the thing is once you lose it, you can't have it back. No it is not a problem that you want time alone with your best friend, but your parents are probably worried that you will have sex, and they obviously don't want you guys too. In the mean time, you can still go out for dinner or to the movies.

  • Physics help please! has to do with spring potential energy?

A vertical spring stores 0.962 J in spring potential energy when a 13-kg mass is suspended from it. You can now write two equations: one for the balance of forces on the mass, and another for the energy stored by the spring. This gives you two equations and two unknowns.

    (a) How far is the spring stretched by the mass? (m)

    (b) What is the spring constant of the spring? (N/m)

    (c) By what factor does the spring potential energy change if the mass attached to the spring is multiplied by 4?

    I thought I had to start off with 0.962 J = .5kd^2

but I'm not sure where to go from there...

any direction or help would be greatly appreciated. thanks!Physics help please! has to do with spring potential energy?
First, you have a force balance equation for a hookean spring:

    F=k*X where F=force, k=spring constant, X=spring extension

You also know that the force comes from a weight so F=m*g in this case.

Now you have the force balace equation:

    m*g=k*X

Second, you have the energy equation for a stetched spring:

    E=0.5*k*X^2

Now you have two equations containing two unknowns (k and X) all expressed in quantities that you do know.

    Solve them algebraically.

    (a) X=(2*E)/(m*g)

Do your own algebra to convince yourself. Then check the dimensions to make sure it makes sense. In physicals, dimension checks are REALLY useful to make sure you have the right answer. Finally plug in the number and compute.

    (b) k=(m*g)^2/(2*E)

Do your own algebra to convince yourself. Check the dimension. Then plug in numbers to compute.

    (c) Assume that the spring remains the same and the spring constant is the same, you will see from the force equation that spring extension is proportional to force, which is proportional to mass. Since mass increased to 4x, extension is going to increase to 4x. Now look at the energy equation. Energy is proportional to the square of spring extension. So since the spring extension is now 4x, the energy will now be 16x. So if the spring is the same and you increase the mass of the spring by factor of 4, the energy in the spring is going to increase by 16, square of the mass.Physics help please! has to do with spring potential energy?
Energy stored in a spring is elastic potential energy.. Pe

    a)

    Pe = 1/2 k x ^2,

where k is the spring constant in N/m

and x is the distance stretched or compressed in m

the weight of the mass is 127.4 N

it is in equilibrium, so the forces are balanced. gravity down, the spring up.

    Since a J = N*m

    0.962 N*m / 127.4 N = 0.0076 m

    b)

Since x = 0.0076 m, and we know Pe we can solve for k

    k = (2 Pe) / x^2 which is 33310 N/m

    c) by 4 as well.

Are the rear Brake drums supposed to be extremely hard to get on?

I changed the rear shoes, hubs, springs and all the little stuff on my wife's 1990 Nissan Stanza, I got the driver side drum on, but now cant get the passenger side on.....how the heck do i get it back on and is it supposed to take a hammer to knock it back on?Are the rear Brake drums supposed to be extremely hard to get on?
Is the brake adjuster spun all the way back in at the very bottom of the replacement shoes? There should be no free space between the tooth adjuster wheel and the body of the adjuster that slips over the base of the shoes .

Try switching brake shoes side to side. Are the rear Brake drums supposed to be extremely hard to get on?
    Several possibilities.

First of all, did you totally release the adjustor?

Some cars have a star wheel on a threaded shaft; other have wedges, etc.

Second is that could the parking brake be hanging up?

    That should be totally loose.

Third is that the wheel cylinder could be sticking?

Make sure the piston turns easily and is not binding from rust.

Also make sure you did not turn the piston slot upside down, as they often are not flat, but slanted.

Also make sure the shoes are centered.

They can move up and down considerably.

You can have the ridge machined off the drum, but you should not have to.

It should fit because replacements should be no larger than the originals.
Noooo hammer! ... When you brake, the shoes wear down. But the drums wear down as well over time.

If these are the original drums there will be a ridge inside the drum on the leading edge. This is what stops the drum going back on.

The best way to remove this is in a lathe but failing that you can carefully use a grindstone in your drill

to remove most of it and the drum will just push on.

One point There is a maximum diameter for the drum which should not be exceeded. Usually if you wire brush them you will find the size stamped on it somewhere. Check this also as you may need new drums. Here in UK replacement drums are about 拢25 a pair roughly $40

    Also check your handbrake adjuster.
no no no hammers, usually the self adjusters are all the way out by the time you put on new shoes, you need to set them back, and them adjust them out to specifications which should be in the repair manual.

drum brakes must be adjusted correctly, or else in a panic stop situation the car can lock one or more wheels and or pull to one side or the other, if you did not get a repair manual yet, go get one. it would have all the Information you need in it
did you run the adjuster all the way in? also there is a ridge on the inside edge of the drum sometimes will make it hard to get on. take the drums and have them turned down to get the edge off. don,t hammer them on or they will get stuck and the wheel won,t turn. do like i said and they will fit. try adjusting the adjuster in all the way.
No! There should be an adjusting screw spindle. I looks like a cowboys spur on the end of a tube. Pull the hold down tang away from the star wheel and turn the star wheel to bring the shoes closer together. Once it's on you make your preliminary adjust through the hole in the back(maybe the front) using a flat screwdriver or a brake spoon.

    Good luck.
did you install them properly. the drum should slide right over. is the parking brake on. remember, brakes, when engaged, press out onto the inside of the drum. your parking brake ';tighten's'; the rear system.
adjust it in some bump shoes with hand

should be little tight but not that you have to hit it

    turn adjuster make it shorter

Does anyone know how to change out the front shocks in a 72 chevy Nova?

I have a 72 chevy Nova and I am needing to replace the front shocks because they are totally shot. The shocks run in-between the front coil spring. What is the best/safest way to change them out myself? I can't really afford to take it to a auto repair shop. Thanks in advance.....Does anyone know how to change out the front shocks in a 72 chevy Nova?
There is a trick to this. The upper studs are visible under the hood. The nuts on them are 9/16';. Use a deep 9/16'; socket, and a long extention. Place the socket over the stud and nut, and move it back and forth from front to back until the stud breaks off. Then just remove the two 1/2'; bolts from the bottom and drop the shock out. When you install the new ones, only tighten the nut on top until the bushings are squeezed down to the diameter of the washers.

Breaking off the studs saves you the trouble of fighting rust on the threads. I can do a pair in about 10 minutes. Nothing to it.Does anyone know how to change out the front shocks in a 72 chevy Nova?
Best way to replace them is to jack up the a arms and remove the wheels as you'll need the room to put a long wrench or breaker bar, they are usually hard to remove. First look for a stud under the hood, its usually a stud about 2 to 3 inches long where the shocks protrude thru the wheel well, remove that nut, or nuts depending on the locking type was used ( some use lock nuts, lock washers. etc) then remove the bottom two bolts from the a arms, its 1 hour job to do both of them, the only hardest part is removing stuck bolts and nuts as they rust quite frequently.
If I remember correctly, your shocks have one mount on top and one mount on bottom. On top mount just take vise grip and attach to the tip of the unthreaded area and break the nut loose with a wrench %26amp; on the bottom use a ratchet and socket on the two bolts threw the ears, but all this is after you have the car jacked up and the wheel off.
Jack the front susp. up and place the stands under the lower A arms, (make sure you leave room for the shocks). You may have to cut the 2 bottum bolts, (you`ll need new ones anyway). The top nut will probably need to be cut as well. Then simply install the new shocks w/ new bushings %26amp; bolts, and your off. Note: w/ the jacks under the lower A arm (put the stand right under the ball joint) your springs will be compressed, so you`ll have no problem sliding in the shock.

I'm a little confused on how you replaced the spring. Are you saying you brought the engine around until the valve was closed and then replaced the spring? You mentioned to where it was all the way up. So I am assuming you檙e talking closing the valve. If that檚 the case I would check and make sure you are getting compression on the Cylinder. It檚 possible when the old spring broke it caused damage to the valve. If compression is good, then the other problem may be with the ignition pick up on the rotor shaft. You may have missed a wire during the re-assembly of the engine. Check these out and see what you find. Good luck.
Right about now I would be removing the cylinder head and checking for damage to the valve and piston.
