How do you change the seasons in Sims 2 Seasons on the PC?

I tried the weather machine on Golden Aspiration.It was winter and I wanted to change it to spring. When i used the weather machine, the flower was highlighted, meaning spring. But outside it was still snowing. Then over time it turned to fall and that's when the snow melted. Is this supposed to happen?How do you change the seasons in Sims 2 Seasons on the PC?
There is a button on the top screen that has a seasons button click it and then change your seasons
