I presume you are changing the struts because you have broken front coil springs? No other reason a Focus owner does this really.
Unbolt and remove the old strut, bolt in a new replacement complete strut assembly (which includes a new spring and mount pre-assembled and ready to bolt in) from Monroe (Quick Strut) or preferably KYB. Replace the front stabilizer bar links too as if they are not already worn out you will probably wreck them taking them off. Because you do not need to disassemble the struts you will not need a spring compressor.HOW TO CHANGE COIL SPRING STRUT OF FORD FOCUS 2000?

In order to change any strut you will need to compress the spring. It is not recommended to do it yourself as if the spring slips under the pressure you can almost take off your head.If you want to save some money remove the struts and take them to a shop and them replace the piston then you reinstall them. There is usually 2 bolts with nuts at the knuckle and 3 or 4 bolts at the top under the hood.
