You've got lime build-up in the cooling system/pipes, as your spring water naturally has this in it. I'd go out, buy a gallon of white vinegar, and then heat it up to warm, but not real hot. Run this whole gallon through the machine. Rinse with tap water until the dispensed water smells normal, not of vinegar.Water cooler question?
I normally do not hang out at the water cooler, however it sounds to me as though you are seeing mineral deposits. Try cleaning the dispenser with some white vinegar, or CLR next time you change bottles. Rinse well after cleaning.
Need more information- what type (brand) of cooler. What brand of spring water?
Do you fill the water or is it a service that comes to your home?
If it's a service - you need to ask them that question...
If your filling the jug from a local source (i.e grocery store) it is probably just lime which is a natural occurring mineral.
There is also styrofoam insulation in the cooler itself to help keep the water cool - do the flakes float or fall to the bottom of the glass?
the top of the cooler where the water jug sits is a large type cap....this cap can be pried up and removed ( use a flat headed screw driver or kitchen butter knife.....underneath is a area that holds about 1 gallon of water....empty the water and clean inside....deposits may be built up inside this area....push the cap back into place.....use CLR to clean and remove these deposits
