When can i change a navel piercing?

I got mine done this weekend, but they did it with a basic ring, made of stergical steel. I hate the look of it, and want to change it NOW. I was planning on doing so for spring break, which is about 5 weeks from now. How early is too early to change it? If I make sure to sterilize the new jewelry, and buy one made of a good material, and continue to clean it, should there be a problem? When can i change a navel piercing?
If you REALLY want to change it then, I suggest that you change it exactly 5 weeks from down. Until then, don't take your ring out and what not. From that point on, after you put in your new jewelry, don't change it for at least 3-4 months. That is because it is not fully healed yet. You should buy a navel ring made out of surgical steel just like the one you have right nowWhen can i change a navel piercing?
It will most likely take at least three months to heal. It could take up to a hear to heal though. Don't take it out, you could cause an infection or cause trauma to the piercing. If you cause trauma your body may reject the piercing. It can't look that bad, lots of people have the ring. If I were you I'd keep it in for at least 3 months. You can tell when it has healed when it looks normal and is not red. Be very careful or you might regret it.
5 weeks is way way too soon, the absolute minimum healing time for a navel piercing is 6 months, it can take anywhere up to a year to fully heal
