Physics question about SHM and energy (1st year university)?

A 3 kg mass is connected to two identical springs on a frictionless horizontal surface. It oscillates horizontally with a period of 2 s, and an amplitude of 4 cm. At time t=0 s, the mass is a distance of 陆 its maximum displacement away from the equilibrium position, travelling to the left, and accelerating to the right. At this same time, one of the two springs breaks (thus changing the effective spring constant). Where is the mass at t=3 s?

Can you explain step by step how to solve this problem? I don檛 know what happens, especially when the spring breaks (how k is changed).Physics question about SHM and energy (1st year university)?

mmmmm ok

I found this on a gaming site... After I posted it there.
