How to change the driver transaxle on a 1988 Nissan Maxima?

I have removed the axle nut and tie rod. There is not enough room to remove the old alxe. Do I need to compress the spring and completely remove the wheel hub and all?How to change the driver transaxle on a 1988 Nissan Maxima?
you need to undo the ball joint from the spindle also.what i usually do is take off the ball joint nut and then hit the spindle in the area where its connected to the ball joint with a 5lb hammer.that usually loosens up the connection between the two.then use a long bar between the k-frame and the lower a-frame and push down to seperate the two.now the axle is probably not gonna just pull out easily.but after some tugging on it,it will come out of the tranny.How to change the driver transaxle on a 1988 Nissan Maxima?
you need to seperate the lower ball joint to get enough room to get it out. i did one just 4 days ago on a prism. i had a little fun because the inner universal was stuck in the transmission it self. after that was out, no problem
