Land rover series 2 1961 4 wheel drive?

I have just got a land rover and don't know if its in 4 wheel drive or how to change over. there is a spring loaded lever with a yellow top. it pushes down and springs back, I think it has to do with the 4 wheel drive.Land rover series 2 1961 4 wheel drive?
Liek the man above says to get out of 4 wheel drive, pull the high low( red lever) towards rear of the vehicle then push it towards front of vehicle. the yellow lever should jump up. To engage 4 wheel drive, fully depress yellow leaver so it stays down. But 2 wheel drive is not available in Low Ratio unless you haf free wheel hubs. Old Land Rover must haf free wheel hubs to be safe, otherwise fron propshaft UJs wear and can drop propshaft on to road and if front end drop can cause severe danmage, rip out gearbox even turn vehicle rite over.

Dont buse 4 WD on dry road otherwise transmission will wind up and can stall vehcul when you turn but at least gearing same front ant bak no like Subaru Legacy.

Old Landrover need much maintnance, 6 propshaft UJ s nede grese ever 1000 miles or ever time ford river, Swivel Hubs nede top up Hypoid 140 ever week when get old and leek, drane off water first, also geerbox and transfer box, drane out water before fill oil and axles drane of water dont overfil ore get on Break shoe.

Also Leef spring need spray oil ever monf ore so and chek for broke spring. Own Old Landrover more way off lief tan transport, but they good of rode. Later coil spring wons much beter in town, ni notis spede bump kurb dat sort ting, and vere strong put dent in oder vehcul no hurt itself, no nede drife saef. I haven't driven a Landrover in years... Have a look at: http://www.difflock.com/diffmag/issue21/
2 ensure its out of 4 wheel drive, pull the high low( red leaver) towards rear of the vehicle then push red leaver towards front of vehicle. the yellow leaver should jump up. 2 engage 4 wheel drive, fully depress yellow leaver so it stays down. ensure if vehicle has free wheeling hubs, that they are in locked position otherwise the front wheels wont drive. the f.w.d is not available with low range selected. do not drive with f.w.d selected on hard surface or damage will occur
indeed, that lever is for central diff. lock. before u drive the lr on dry tarmac ask a qualified mechanic for proper servicing. u may ruin the driveshafts and / or the transfer case.
you're right - because all of those land rovers series 1, 2 and 3 (now the 'defender') were four wheel drive. i used to have an early 60s series 2, and that lever is for engaging the four wheel drive.
